If you are unable to work due to serious injury, illness or disability you may be able to make a claim if you have a relevant superannuation policy or hold disability insurance.
It is extremely important that you do not make any changes to your superannuation accounts until you have sought legal advice as those changes may affect your rights and insurance products.
Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) Claims
TPD insurance allows you to gain access to superannuation benefits you may be entitled to under your superannuation fund if you cannot work due to serious injury, illness or disability.
Generally you will have to show the following:
• Your injury, illness or disability is preventing you from working and is likely to do so on a permanent basis; and
• You are unable to continue working in your usual job or any other occupation that your education, skills and training qualifies you to have.
Income Protection
You may also hold income protection or salary continuance insurance under your superannuation fund.
This insurance provides continuance of your income for a specified time under your policy if you are unable to work due to partial or total disability.
